[edit] François Duquesnoy

Your article François Duquesnoy needs cleanup -- it seems poorly formatted at the very least. You might also want to mark it as a stub.

[edit] Sources for School of Ferrara (Painting)

Hello. Thanks for your valuable contributions to art articles - this is much appreciated. In particular, I like what you did with School of Ferrara (Painting). However, you did not provide any references or sources in the article. Keeping Wikipedia accurate and verifiable is very important, and as you might be aware there is currently a push to encourage editors to cite the sources they used when adding content. Can you list in the article any websites, books, or other sources that will allow people to verify the content in School of Ferrara (Painting)? You can simply add links, or see WP:CITET for different citation methods. Thanks! Lupin|talk|popups 13:33, 8 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

I just wanted to tell you thanks for Scarsellino and other valuable articles. Keep up the good work! And please tell something about yourself on your user page! Renata3 03:33, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Duplicate article at Bonifacio Pitati

It seems that your article an article for Bonifacio Pitati already exists at Bonifazio Veronese. I've redirected the article you wrote to the original one, however you had some details in yours that don't seem to be in the original, so maybe you could add more on it, thanks. - Hahnchen 21:57, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Churches and Monuments of Rome

I noticed that you included many churches of Rome in the Category about Monuments and sights of Rome; since all of the churches are already included in the "Churches of Rome" category, and since this category is already a sub category of "Monuments and sights", I would ask you to revert your edits. Best regards, --Panairjdde 18:46, 27 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Moved "Gertrude Goldschmidt" to "Gego"

Thanks for starting the article. I moved the main article as the artist is more frequently known as Gego. Gertrude Goldschmidt redirects to the article JRSP 23:52, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

Hi! Because I agreed with your comments on Talk:List of artworks, I nominated the page for deletion. Join the discussion, if you're interested. Skarioffszky 11:02, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Academy Saint Luke

Thank you for your kind words. You also are of course a lover of the great Michelangelo - and you know far more than I about art. (I'm merely clever at taking books and making a summary of them). Robb, in my opinion, is a journalist rather than a scholar - which is exactly what I see myself as being. He did a great deal of work before writing his biography, but in the writing he allowed (deliberately) himself to take a highly personalised view of his subject. It's great writing, but not really scholarship.

As for the article on the academy, it suffers from being too narrow - this is because it's based on to few sources. How important was it in subsequent art history? I have no idea. But this needs to be written proiperly - a job which you will be more able than I to do, as I don't read Italian. I will watch what happens with interest.

By the way, do you know the expatraite Australian artist Jeffrey Smart? He paints desolate, austere scenes, with something of Caravaggio's spirit - but without Caravaggio's hope of salvation. That's the true modernism of Caravaggio, his discovery of the isolation of modern man, in a world in which religion is a hope rather than a certainty. PiCo 13:46, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Andrea Meldolla

Can you check this ungrammatical quote from Freedberg you added on 15 Dec:

"occasionally, the sensibility - too receptive, almost feminine - that inclined Schiavone towards imitation brought him to the verge of echo of (Titian)".

Problem part highlighted - verge of echoing perhaps? Johnbod 18:40, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cannobio

Now, Egreggio Mr Caravaggisti -

I have removed all our arguments from this page as they serve no useful purpose. I am sure you would agree.

My request is that if we are to produce a meaningful page on Cannobio that it be done constructively.

I admire your contribution of the history of Cannobio and have taken the liberty of correcting some of the english, whilst leaving, in totality, your contribution intact.

I have reinserted SOME of my original contributiuon, leaving out your perfectly reasonable accusation of some of it being a little like Yellow Pages. I have no axe whatsoever to grind that these be left out, though would argue that as Cannobio IS primarily a tourist destination, at least a LIST of commercial entities - particularly restaurant...a source close to the heart of any Italian - be included, if no personal observations on their merit or lack of it.

I am relatively new to Wikipedia and therefore ask that if there is anything you, or anyone, objects to in the content of my contribution, they do me the courtesy of telling me - and this CAN be done politely - instead of arbitarily deleting everything. I am perfectly willing to learn.

THAT, to my view, is the spirit of Wikipedia - Even Wikipedia describes Encyclopedic as

An encyclopedia, encyclopaedia or (traditionally) encyclopædia,[1] is a comprehensive written compendium that contains information on all branches of knowledge or a particular branch of knowledge.

Thanks for creating a disambiguation page for Castello. The next step is to disambiguate the links to the page - check what links here. Warofdreams talk 01:43, 28 January 2007 (UTC) Now done to best of my knowledge. CARAVAGGISTI 02:20, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Help in edit war

Can I ask your help in the poll to dirime this edit war at Castelseprio (see talk:Castelseprio)? I've stumbled in somebody with awful style layout, nad probably one of those guys getting stuck like children in their version of any article. Bye and good work. --Attilios 09:33, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Peitre dure

The article Pietre dure needs some major revision. Mosaic is an ancient art, but lapidary art is a different art; it's jewelers doing stone, semiprecious stone and even precious stone, all finely polished and tightly fitted, unlike a bathroom floor or wall. Peitre dure is the jeweler's art applied to mosaic, with the grout sometimes made invisible.

Can we call Jacopo Ligozzi a jeweler? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by MarkTwainOnIce (talkcontribs) 09:34, 28 January 2007 (UTC).

I vote no, unless someone has strong opinions yes. Jewelers have to handle precious materials with their hands. I have no evidence he did that, and likely did not. CARAVAGGISTI 15:36, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

I have redone pietre dure, and would not mind a critique. The references/sources need to be tidied up somewhat, but that's for another day; the article also needs to be moved to the correct name-space.
I've also dug up enough to justify an article Galleria di'Lavori and/or Opificio delle pietre dure. --MarkTwainOnIce 19:42, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
PS, I need a translation for opere di commessi; "works of store clerks" is absurd in English. --MarkTwainOnIce 20:44, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Castelseprio

I would signal you the behaviour of user:Johnbod at Castelseprio: another personal attempt to put back the page at his will to a pre-Edir War version, when a large consensus had been reached to keep things as they were. He did an alleged splitting, but not the one discussed there. Bye and thanks --Attilios 01:34, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Torrelli

Not being the author, I can--and did --remove the tag. The prejudice against the fine arts here seems to be increasing-- - You've been here much longer than I have, but I do not know whether you follow the AfD debates--I do, mainly to rescue persecuted academics-- , and the only way to deal with it is to build up the article in advance offline and never put in a stub. To prevent speedys, the trick at the moment is to include the exact phrase "He is notable for ..." using that exact word. Sounds nutty, but it works. The Grove ref there did not work at least from the US. I put in an additional one to the subscription version. I am trying to get it established that any artist (or musician) with a Grove article is Notable as a matter of course, and if you wish I will help--and ask for help--as needed. [edit] Printmakers

When doing new artists PLEEEASE try to remember (if appropriate) to say "painter and printmaker" in the lead, to include & link the technique(s) used, and to categorise as "Category:Italian printmakers". Lets face it, Ghisi and Salimbeni are now better known as printmakers than painters, surely? You might also look at the new List of Printmakers to see who else is missing of your guys, Thanks Johnbod 04:40, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

Oh, by the way, congratulations on your Barnstar from General attilios! Johnbod 04:42, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Cosenza and Palazzo Te

First, I don't appreciate what Johnbod has just wrote up here... he seems to be raging as he's lost the edit war on Castelseprio. But that's OK. I was asking you if you wanted to support move of Palazzo del Te to Palazzo Te here, of course if you agree. Also, I've started wikification of the mess at Cosenza. Bye and good work. --Attilios 23:07, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

Ah, if you support the move of Palazzo Te, you can add support in the survey section of the talk page there. Bye. --Attilios 11:24, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Couple of missing topics lists

Greetings. I have watched your handiwork for a while now. It appears that you are writing about artists, some of which have been linked to my lists of missing topics about art. I am hardly an expert so could you find time to have a look at the lists, at least as far as your speciality is concerned? - Skysmith 14:02, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Thank you - Skysmith 12:20, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] A note

Ciao CARAV. Just a note for new articles you are creating. Don't forget to add the categories of births and death (see what I did in Flaminio Ponzio, for example), and to add the DEFAULTSORT template before categories list. Bye and good work. --Attilios 11:18, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

I just found out about this myself: DEFAULTSORT is a magic words callup, not a template (note the "|" instead of the ":") and it must be in ALL CAPS to work correctly. Sorry for any inconvenience. RadioKirk (u|t|c) 20:40, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Italian or Florentine?

Hi - your views would be welcome at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Visual_arts#.22Italian.22_or_.22Florentine.22_etc_artist_.3Fc here Johnbod 17:21, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Concrete suggestions for Pederasty?

You criticized pederasty on its talk page a while back, but made no edits to the article. I've placed a POV tag on the page -- what are the changes you think should be made? DanBDanD 18:20, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

My comments elaborate in the discussion problems with the scholarship of the article, specifically that where there is a dearth of data, sodomy is confused with pederasty, and on the whole the article seems to suggest that pederasty is common. On the other hand, I do not want to re-write this article; I do not want to make it my focus. It is a contentious business of which I want no part of. My interest is the culture of the Italian peninsula mainly from 1600-1800. My intersection with pederasty was that one of the authors of the pederasty article was making octupus-like links to items of little relationship, and also using those articles to foward his view that "pederasty was commonplace" specially among the "luminaries of the time". He also made specific statements that were false, he made Michelangelo into a pederast, and the evidence of this is sketchy. The article of pederasty is a problems, for which I do not want to be the solution. I would warn the editors that some of the behavior exhibited by Haiduc and others could be seen as legally troublesome, if it means to link Michelangelo, a common topic for middle school children, to pederasty, and from there to man-boy organizations like NAMBLA. I am comfortable patrolling Italian art, I do not want to be responsible for what occurs in "pederasty". CARAVAGGISTI 03:41, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
