What's with the shameless advertisement? --David Li (yes, bagel spite one) 68.33.187.203 02:56, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

I love you

Seems to me that a lot of this, excluding the (current) vandalism, isn't all that unbiased. Not that any significant portion of the population visits the Wikipedia entry for CHS anyways...

If you insist on mentioning the speed bump on Wiki, you must do so in NPOV fashion. If you want to make Wiki some sort of a billboard of protest regarding the speed bump, don't. Jxyama 07:47, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

I made a classic "weasel word" blunder. Please see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Avoid_weasel_words. I've consequently removed the speed bump mention. If someone actually attends CHS, please add factual information on how many speed bumps were added, how many per road, etc. to support the claim of excessiveness. Jxyama 04:34, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Spelling Bee "Notability"

For reasons passing understanding one or two editors seem to think that a student is notable for making it to the Scripts Howard Spelling Bee. Said student is COMPLETELY unfamiliar to me, and I live roughly 10 minutes from Carmel. I recall no major news, television or magazine coverage of said student. Hundreds of kids make it to the spelling bee and PERHAPS the winner is of note and if they are particularly notable (such as the guy who passed out and was the subject of national news) then they might be notable on that ground. But simply BEING in the spelling bee is NOT notable. Additionally, User:Heyhey Hey, created a page about said person which was deleted on the grounds that it was not notable. There need be no consensus when it has been shown through a deletion process that a person is not notable. When an article about a subject that is non-notable is deleted, it is common practice to remove that reference in other articles. If said person is deemed to fail notability requirements for a page, they are then deemed to fail notability requirements for mention as a "notable student" or any other inclusion. 74.132.172.179 00:57, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Vikas Vavilala, lol.. he is a notable student, i think everyone in the school knows him —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 149.166.231.162 (talk • contribs).

  • That may very well be, but this is not Carmel High School Wikipedia. This is a web encyclopedia for the entire world, and nobody outside a very small group of people have any idea who this person is. He was already deemed not notable enough for a page, thus he is not notable enough for inclusion in wikipedia. 74.132.172.179 22:50, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
A topic is notable if it has been the subject of multiple, non-trivial published works from sources that are reliable and independent of the subject itself and each other. All topics must meet a minimum threshold of notability in order for an article on that topic to be included in Wikipedia. This requirement ensures that there exists enough source material to write a verifiable, encyclopedic article about the topic.
By this standard, Mr. Vavilala is not notable. When he wins, come back here (with citations) and I'll have no objection.

Agreed, subject does not meet ANY standard notability test for inclusion in wikipedia. I've got this sneaking suspicion that this Vikas person is the one editing the page to include his name. I've also got a suspicion that Heyhey Hey is a sock puppet of Chicodemexico, as such I am going to report them as suspected sock puppets of each other. If said users add the non-notable information again i'm going to report them as vandals for persistently inserting information against this talk page discussion as well as reinserting deleted material after it has been speedily deleted on non-notable grounds. 74.132.172.179 03:48, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

vikas vavilala, hes a nerd (no offense, going to be richer than me..), but nevertheless hes gone to ntl geo and spelling bees and mathcounts, and he was in this carmel newspape( had some article about him, said he recommeneded SAT gagets for christmas..) He's not really famous famous, but there were 3 middle schools, and people from the other two middle schools that he did not attend knew him (134.68.241.121 04:22, 31 January 2007 (UTC))

NONE of that even comes close to meeting wikipedia requirements for notability. Once again...come back when he's received NATIONAL attention. Someone at another middle school knowing you is not impressive. Perhaps it is to him, but it certainly is not to wikipedia. He is still non-notable. 74.132.172.179 11:37, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

You can still add notable students though. Its just like putting the principal for carmel high school down. hes not notable, but we've still included him. So these students are not notable to the world, but they are important to carmel high school

Well, no...it's completely different. The principal is included in the information box of all High Schools which use the box. Not because HE is notable, but because the school is notable enough for a page and MUCH discussion was held about what to include and what not to include in the information box. You just made the point AGAINST notability and inclusion when you said "not notable to the world, but important to carmel high school." This page is not FOR Carmel High School. It is FOR the world, and to the world, these students are NOT NOTABLE. The one spelling bee kid has already been the subject of a page that lasted LESS than a day and was speedy deleted as non-notable. The other kid MAY ONE DAY become notable if he does indeed play college ball, but only if he does something special while playing. Simply put, these students DO NOT meet the most BASIC requirement of notability for inclusion in wikipedia. If you have a problem with the criteria, take it up on the talk page of the notability guidelines where it's supposed to go. The continued insertion of non-notable people against consensus and talk page discussion IS vandalism, and will be reverted when made. I'm sorry that your friends are viewed by the wikipedia community as non-notable, but that's simply the way it is. 74.132.172.179 00:20, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

Wait ive got one more question. This page is suppose to imform people about carmel high school, and one of the aspects of carmel high school is its students. So why cant you just change the notable students to popular students, that has nothing to do with notablilty.

"Popular Students" would be subjective, original research, pov and itself wholly unencyclopedic. This isn't an encyclopedia of worthless information or of opinions. If this Iowa guy or the spelling bee guy gain NATIONAL media attention for a significant period of time, THEN they MIGHT be notable enough for inclusion. As is, there is simply no way that they are notable enough for mention on wikipedia...anywhere.74.132.172.179 01:35, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

who is kevin shinkle?

[edit] student number

therse 3999 according to carmel high school

actually, Carmel High School says it has more than 4,001 students, which was the total number at the end of the 2005-2006 school year. Currently, they say they have more, not counting students that moved in during the school year
