Cartel de Santa
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cartel de Santa is a Mexican hip hop band from Santa Catarina, Nuevo León, Mexico.
Cartel de Santa presents us with their first musical work "Cartel de Santa"; an album that contains 19 tracks under the production of Jason Roberts. Roberts, one of the best producers of alternative rap and hip hop, has produced works for important international groups the likes of: Cypress Hill, Ice Cube, House Of Pain, Guns N' Roses, Control Machete, and Plastlina Mosh.
Cartel de Santa is formed by Babo the vocalist (or better said in terms of hip hop the "MC" (master of ceremonies), and by Monoplug who in turn is responsible for the sound and rhythms.
In this record, you will find large tracks like "La Pelotona", "Mi Ciudad", "Burreros", "Chinga los Racistas", "Quinto Elemento", and or "NTN"; all fully loaded with hip hop flavor. In these tracks, as well as iin "Perros", "Asesino de Asesinos", "Super MC's" and "Jake Mate", MC Babo performs lyric virtouso stunts, creating all the while vivid images of the situations which many live on everyday. In "Todas mueren por mi" and "Para aquí o para llevar", it is Daddy-B who is erected as the crowned champion of egocentric rhymes... adorned by the crude melancholy and the powerful guitars, the Cartel further reaffirms its force through Monoplug's solid "beats" without concessions.
Cartel de Santa makes it clear that through their verbigrace, they intend to "Eliminar" (Eliminate) who ever gets in their way. An album as real as its characters, spawned not solely from the band's experience; this record is a reflection of a people who are constantly put down, a people that are maybe themselfves a tad self-destructive. In many occasions, it is a people made to feel that they could not possibly have anything to offer. but that in a world in which there is not time to be stopped or to assimilate this reality.
In line with this, Cartel de Santa participated in the homage album to José Alfredo Jiménez: "XXX Un Mundo Raro" with a modern version of "Ella" (also found on their first album). This is a track that without doubt will cause great controversy but perhaps surprise us. In the second soundtrack for the Mexican edition of Fear Factor, we will be able to find the song, as well as the video for their second single "Todas mueren por mí".
Cartel de Santa is presently promoting their Third Album "El volumen prohibido", Their current single is "cheka wey".
