Carswell (publishers)

Carswell is a Canadian law publishing house. It became a member of the Thomson Organization in 1987, and is now part of the Thomson North American Legal unit of the Thomson Corporation.

Since 1864, Carswell has been providing the information tools and resources for legal professionals and draws on an international base of Thomson publishers. Through a merger with Richard de Boo Publishers, Carswell also provides information to tax and accounting and human resources professionals.

Headquartered in Toronto, Ontario, Carswell provides integrated information in a range of formats, including books, looseleaf services, journals, newsletters, CD-ROMs and online. Its online services include Westlaw-eCarswell, CarswellBusiness, and taxnetpro.

Carswell acquired Editions Yvon Blais, a specialized legal publisher in the Quebec market, in 1996, and Lexpert, a source of news and information about the business of law, in 2004. Its main competitors are Canada Law Book and LexisNexis Canada.
