Carrick Knowe

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Carrick Knowe is a suburb in the West of Edinburgh in Scotland, located approximately 3 miles from the city centre. It is often considered part of Corstorphine, however it has its own shopping area, primary school, parish church and public park.

Carrick Knowe is bordered by the A8 to the North, railway line to the South, golf course to the East, and Ladywell Avenue to the West. The catchment area for the primary school encompasses almost this entire area, the Northernmost border being Castle Avenue and Meadowhouse Road.

Carrick Knowe was built from the late 1940s onwards, with a mix between council tenants and owner-occupiers. The rise in tenants exercising their Right to buy has ensured that relatively few council tenants remain. Property being sold in the area is frequently described as being in Corstorphine, this trading on the higher average house price in Corstorphine postcodes than in Carrick Knowe given differences in quality of accommodation.
