[edit] History
Carondelet was founded in 1965, by the Sisters of Saint Joseph as suggested by Bishop Floyd Begin of Oakland. At that time, Carondelet was the only Catholic high school for girls in Contra Costa County. It opened in September 1965 consisting of only six classrooms and nine teachers. The freshman class was of only 115 young women. The school was completed on October 22, 1966, being dedicated to Bishop Floyd Begin.
From their web site: Carondelet High School, founded and sponsored by the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Carondelet, provides quality Catholic education in a caring environment. Carondelet educates, challenges, and enables young women to integrate gospel values, to intelligently apply these values to their lives, and to reflect these values through leadership and service to the greater community.
