Carmine are a band from the southern suburbs of Sydney who formed in 2006. Influenced by such bands as Foo Fighters, Muse and Jimmy Eat World, Carmine combines classic rock with pop sensibilities and punk tinges. Amongst other reasons, the band is named after a character from the film Mystery Men. They consist of Jony Bluhdorn (lead guitar, backing vocals), Lucas Gillman (guitar, lead vocals), Paul Skropidis (bass guitar) and Tim Whipp (drums). They are often accompanied by Lisa Swift (touring keyboardist).
[edit] Band History
When Jordan Gillman was asked to provide a band to play at a cafe that he helped run, he sought the assistance of his younger brother, Lucas Gillman. Along with Lucas' school friend, Jony Bluhdorn, Carmine were formed. The original lineup consisted of Lucas on guitar and lead vocals, Jony on lead guitar and backing vocals and Jordan on drums and backing vocals. Drawing from a history of listening to classic and modern rock and pop music, Lucas, Jordan and Jony began rehearsals for Kairos Cafe. Despite an unenthusiastic audience, Carmine enjoyed performing a competent acoustic set of eight covers.
Shortly following their formation, Jordan announced his intentions to move to New Zealand and Carmine found themselves without a drummer.
Good news brought Carmine into the new year as they announced their modified lineup which now included Jony and Lucas' friend Paul Skropidis on bass guitar and school mate Timothy Whipp on drums.
Carmine have been on the move since, preparing for performances and slowly but surely growing a fanbase.
March 24, 2007 saw Carmine perform Live on Vine Street in Hurstville. It was the first live performance of three original songs: "Let Scheming Friends Lie" (written by Lucas and Jony), "Jasmine" (written by Jony) and "Smoke and Mirrors" (written by Lucas).
