In 2005, Yuen wrote a weekly opinion column for The Province, British Columbia's most-read newspaper. She has written extensively on the subjects of mindful eating, healing, fitness, and nutrition.

Yuen also worked in the New York City entertainment industry. She wrote captions for VH-1's Pop-Up Video and was an A&R talent scout for Columbia Records, scouting bands that included Franz Ferdinand. She was a student associate at an entertainment law firm.

At age 19, Carmen received a book deal from Parallax Press, Zen monk Thich Nhat Hanh's publishing company. Released in October 2006, The Cosmos in a Carrot: A Zen Guide to Eating Well distills Buddhist wisdom, nutritional information, and health advice into an accessible guide. In January 2007, Yuen promoted her book on TV and radio, including CBC Radio One and CityTV. The same month, she did a two-week book tour of California, which included signings and readings at the San Francisco Ferry Terminal, Sacramento's Well-Being Fair, and three Elephant Pharmacies.

In 2006, Yuen won a Grammy entertainment law initiative award for a paper on master ringtone licensing. She presented her paper at the 8th Annual Entertainment Law Initiative luncheon and attended the 49th Grammy Awards. She raised eyebrows when she walked the carpet wearing an unusual dress and hat.
