Carleton, Nova Scotia
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia. It is a small, friendly community that is laced with trees and has a cool breeze that drifts off the Carleton River. In Fall and Spring, leaves can be heard rustling, unlike any metropolis where all that can be heard is the rustle of a car's engine. It is a peaceful place with not much noise. Summer brings the fishermen, who can be seen around the middle of the village wading through the Carleton River in hopes of finding a catch. [1] Carleton is also home to The Shire, 165 acres of protected land situated on Mink Lake – the land is a mixture of streams, meadow, wetland and Acadian forest. There are a series of interconnected hiking trails, gardens, organic agriculture and environmentally sustainable built facilities and sports activities for groups. The purpose of the Shire is to be a gathering ground for the study and practice of how to build a sustainable human future (www.oftheshire.org).
