Carl Christopher Landry (born September 19, 1983 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin) is a collegiate basketball player for the Purdue Boilermakers. He is a 6'7", 245 lb forward. Landry is the older brother of Wisconsin sophomore forward Marcus Landry, and Temple sophomore forward Shenita Landry.
[edit] College career
Carl Landry started his college freshman year during the 2002-2003 season at Vincennes University, where NBA star Shawn Marion once played. He averaged 14.7 points and 7.8 rebounds but missed half the season due to a broken hand. As a sophomore during the 2003-04 season, he averaged 19.6 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks. He was named first-team Junior College All-America and All-Region MVP.
Landry transferred to Purdue University for his junior year and the 2004-'05 season, where he led the Boilermakers with 18.2 points (best in the Big Ten) and 7.1 rebounds. He shot 61.8 percent from the field and averaged 30.3 minutes per game. He was named second team All Big Ten by conference coaches and media. A knee injury near the end of the season caused Landry to miss the rest of the games that year. He was redshirted during the 2005-06 season due to a leg injury he received in a game at Evansville early in the season.
As a fifth-year senior during the 2006-07 season, he is leading Purdue in rebounding and scoring with averages near 7 rebounds and 19 points per game. Landry started ths season with 3 consecutive Big Ten Player of the Week honors, the only player in conference history to do so. Landry is one of only 2 players in the league to rank in the top 5 of both ppg and rbg. He ranks in the top 3 Big Ten ppg averages with Alando Tucker of Wisconsin and Adam Haluska of Iowa. Along with teammate David Teague, the pair are the 2nd highest scoring duo in the Big Ten. A big part of his game has to do with the frequency in which he reaches the line. He has almost as many free throw attempts as field goal attempts and nobody else in the league comes close in times at the line and free throw attemps. He is shooting well over 70% from the free throw line for the season. Also, he has a field goal percentage well over 50%. Carl is considered one of the better post players in the nation, especially for his lack of height. In recognition of his efforts in the 2006-2007 season, Landry was awarded with First-Team All-Big Ten honors on March 6, 2007. He finished his senior season averaging 18.9 ppg and 7.3 rpg.[1]
