From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Cardinal Greenway is a rail trail that encompasses 60 miles of former CSX railroad routes in east central Indiana. The trail runs from Richmond north to Marion and is the longest rail trail project in Indiana. An important part of the American Discovery Trail, Cardinal Greenway was designated a National Recreation Trail in June 2003

Though much of the trail is unpaved, Delaware County offers 27 miles of paved trail with trailheads, rest areas, and interpretive signage. All rest areas and trial heads are handicapped accessible as well. In Delaware County the trail bisects Muncie with the historic Wysor Street Depot in the middle. Just to the north of the depot the Cardinal Greenway intersects the White River Greenway.

The Cardinal Greenway is a multiuse trail that offers a wide variety of experiences to its users, one of the most spectacular being the Prarie Creek Reservoir area. In this area horsemen have approximately 27 miles of trail available.

[edit] Connections With Other Trails

The Cardinal Greenway connects to the White River Greenway just north of the Wysor Street Depot near downtown Muncie. Current expansion is underway to construct a larger White River Greenway trail along Wheeling Road north of downtwon Muncie.
