Cardiff University Students' Union (Undeb Myfyrwyr Prifysgol Caerdydd in Welsh) is the students' union for Cardiff University, which aims to promote the interests of its students. It is located in Cathays, spanning between Senghennydd Road on the north side and Park Place on the south side.
The Union building is situated directly over the main railway going north from Cardiff to The Valleys, next door to the Cathays train station. It has a well-stocked shop, a restaurant, a coffee shop and houses the studios of Xpress Radio (which is piped throughout the union),gair rhydd (Welsh: 'Free Word') student newspaper and the newly developed CUTV (Cardiff Union TV). There is nightclub, called Solus, which holds events throughout the week. Monday is 'Fun Factory', Wednesday is 'Rubber Duck', Friday is 'Access All Areas' and Saturday is 'Come Play'. There is a pub in the union called the Taf. Cardiff's SU can attract bands and musicians of a high calibre, such as The Darkness, Motörhead and Super Furry Animals, who have all played in the main hall there. In addition to the Main Hall, there is a smaller, alternative function room which doubles up as the café (Known from 2005 as CF10, formerly Seren Las).
In addition to these, there is a Games room with snooker and pool tables, a counselling service, and a postgraduate centre. The SU is also a destination for students' exams during the exam periods.
During 2006/2007, Union President Joe Al-Khayat has been involved in discussions with Cardiff University about the re-development of the Students' Union building.
