Caraguatay is a small town located in the Vaporcue region of Paraguay, South America. The livelihood of most citizen's includes farming, fishing, and local trading.

The close-knit town thrives on gossip, especially those that concern their citizens who have immigrated to the United States. Prominent citizens include Elva Martinez, and Sanchito Alvarez, the town mule.[citation needed] Guaraní mythology are a unique part of Caraguatay's culture. Some include Luison, a werewolf type man. Others include Pombero, a small Indian spirit who lives in the woods. In order to get past Pombero, a person must either be a beautiful woman or come bearing cigars and beer. Additionally, there is Michi Taveray, a small boy who will take children away if they are not asleep during siesta.
