Cara Mia

It was written by Tulio Trapani and Lee Lange and published in 1954.
In reality Lee Lange was the pseudonym for Bunny Lewis, who was David Whitfield's record producer, and Tulio Trapani was the nom de plume for the song's co-writer and arranger Mantovani. The United Kingdom singer David Whitfield first recorded the song with the Mantovani Orchestra in 1954; this recording made the charts in the United States as well as in the UK, where it reached Number One. It in fact set a record in being the first song to spend ten weeks at number one in the UK. In the past 52 years, the only songs that have equalled "Cara Mia"'s record are:
- "Rose Marie" by Slim Whitman - 11 weeks from July 29 to September 24, 1955
- "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You" by Bryan Adams - 16 weeks from July 7 to October 20, 1991
- "I Will Always Love You" by Whitney Houston - 10 weeks from November 29, 1992 to January 31, 1993
- "Love Is All Around" by Wet Wet Wet - 15 weeks from May 29 to September 4, 1994
In 1965 it was also recorded by Jay and the Americans for another chart hit.
