[edit] Doc on Red vs Blue

Thanks for finding a verifiable reference for Doc's first name. The rest of that footnote becomes irrelevant, now that we have a canonical soutrce for that. — TKD::Talk 09:21, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] List of main characters in Red vs Blue

Hi CapDac, I reworked and reverted some of your edits to list of main characters in Red vs Blue. First, you should not link episode numbers, because no reasonable article can exist at, say Episode 52. Also, be careful how you cite; you put a footnote saying that the season 3 DVD profiles supported the claim that viewers mistook Lopez in the distance for Tex. While I'm fairly certain that has been said at some point, I'm equally convinced that it was not said there. Third, keep in mind that Red vs Blue is an American production, so you should strive to use American spellings (e.g., favor instead of favour). Finally, as I posted to Talk:List of main characters in Red vs Blue), I have a rationale for my changes that I wanted to make clear:

  • Yes, Sarge does save Grif's life; however, there is no evidence that he consciously does this to "repay" the favor.
  • There is no evidence that Church actually believes that Grif is smart. He is messing with Simmons' mind at that point. This has been reverted a few times this week, and not just by myself.
  • I'm almost positive that the season 3 DVD character profiles do not explain that viewers confused Lopez for Tex. The season 1 DVD commentary probably does mention it, but that needs to be verified.
  • The Purple Hearts bit is at best tangential even for Caboose's section.
  • In episode 52, Church's quote is: "Nope. No matter how bad they seem, they can't be any better, and they can't be any worse, because that's the way things fucking are, and you better get used to it, Nancy. Quit your bitching." That basically applies to his attempts to change the past, and doesn't seem to extrapolate itself to situations that are still unfolding (because those haven't finished occurring yet), as happensin episode 77. — TKD::Talk 07:42, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

Hopefully, this makes sense. Please let me know if my reasons aren't clear enough for you, or you disagree. But please discuss, preferably on Talk:List of main characters in Red vs Blue, before re-adding sections of text that have already been removed multiple times (particularly the bit about Church thinking that Grif is smart; this is disputed by at least one editor other than myself, for the reason stated above). Thanks! — TKD::Talk 07:42, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

Hi CapDac; was this edit intended for me? I think you misspelled my username; it's TKD, not TDK. Could you copy that over to my user talk page and remove it from the other's page, to avoid confusion?
No problem about the content issues, and sorry if I sounded a bit terse to you. That wasn't my intent. You shouldn't be afraid of "meddling", and in fact Wikipedia encorages people to be bold in editing. I'm just a bit of a stickler for accuracy in the Red vs Blue articles. And, upon review, yes, you weren't the one who added the episode links; it was some other anonymous user. Sorry about the mixup. And, no, I wasn't the one who put that paragraph on Church there. So I think we're even in regards to confusin g who added what. :) I think I was just a bit frustrated about the fact that several users have been in the "Church thinks Grif is smart" spiel multiple times this week. Again, thanks for trying to help; sorry if I came across as blunt. Don't let this discourage you; as long as things all work out to everyone's satisfaction in the end, then the spirit of the wiki has prevailed. Let me know if you need anything! — TKD::Talk 15:38, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hello

I read your user page on accents. Good stuff - true stuff. I'm a fan of both Australia and New Zealand and there are noticable differences between accents. There is, however, some Australian lingo that I don't quite understand. Nothing comes to mind at present but if you could shed some light on your slang that would be great. --SacredVisions 23:09, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

What exactly would you like to know? Dac 05:45, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

Anything from the word 'bathroom' to common profanity. --SacredVisions 21:32, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

The term "Bathroom" is used basically to only apply to a room that actually has a bath (or alternatively a shower, or both) in it. For the toilet, we call it a list of things...toilet, dunny, the John, shithouse, commode, essentially any name it has except for bathroom. Curse words are generally the same, although we do have a couple of them that soften the blow. "Bugger", while still rude, is notably less rude than some other words. For a full list of Australian slang, check out this page, it has a lot of things to help.

But since Steve Irwin, no normal Australian has used the word "Crikey".

Thanks for the link. Fantastic! --SacredVisions 00:37, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Flying Dutchman Crew members

Hello CapDac,

I just wanted to let you know the Flying Dutchmen names - Ratlin, Wheelback, Angler, Quittance, and Crash aren't something I and others made up.

They are mentioned in articles/interviews with the developers here:

http://features.cgsociety.org/story_custom.php?story_id=3667&page=2

http://features.cgsociety.org/story_custom.php?story_id=3680

Some of these characters are also mentioned in the Pirates of the Caribbean 3 cast at IMDB. Now, I'm not a wiki veteran or anything so I'm not sure if maybe we need more sources to order to add these. I just wanted to let you know these aren't just names people here have been making up.

[edit] Pirates of the Caribbean minor characters

I've been looking at this page and someone had added in "Andrew", however, I have removed that as that name is not known and I've told that person to talk about in the talk page first, before adding to it. If that's not the right course action, I appologize Captain Drake Van Hellsing 21:24, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

You know, I've been looking at the new crew members that were added recently, and I was thinking that they shouldn't be there unless there are actually some sort of real information, not just "So and so played the background crewman", I mean, it just doesn't seem to be that good (Can't think of the word right now) if that's all there is really. But I'm not really touching it at the moment, so yeah.... Captain Drake Van Hellsing 20:12, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Jack's Crew

I recently saw someone adding in extra crewmen and with no citations (I think is the word to use), unlike Davy Jone's crew....so, do you think that they should be removed at all? Just wondering about your thoughts is all. Captain Drake Van Hellsing 21:06, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Gang Show

I am rv yr deletion of the content example as this was explicitly included to explicate a query (see talk) re the format of a Gang Show. It wasn't advertising. Pls assume good faith. Thanks Albatross2147 13:34, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

I hope you will agree that our collaboration on the "advertising" para has produced a satisfactory and felicitous result.Albatross2147 00:01, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
Jeez you're tough, given that the example is provided to explicate a fairly dense preceding para rather than providing "advertising" for an event that is in the past. Your views on what constitutes advertising seem errr... fairly extreme. My interpretation of what I think your stance is on this would knock out most entries in Wp or have I got this wrong? Cheers Albatross2147 00:12, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Red vs. Blue Flash stuff

Hey Dac,

I saw the edit that you made to Red vs. Blue. As a general rule, try to avoid the word "recently". If the page in questions happens not to be updated substantially in six months, it's no longer quite as recent. :) Always prefer a straight date, if you can. (As another unsolicited tip about time references: Generally avoid using seasons, unless you're specific referring to the characteristics of a season; your summer is my winter, and vice versa.)

I took the liberty of rewriting that paragraph to remove the viewer reactions for now; individual forum posts aren't generally reliable sources. But, for the record, Burnie stated in a sponsor forum thread that the change to Flash was to combat the fact that Sponsor videos were going up on YouTube as soon as they were released. Flash goes up sponsors on Fridays, downloads for sponsors and Flash for the public on Mondays, and downloads for the public on Wednedsays. Hopefully, he'll make this announcement public when the public downloads go live on Wednesday, as a restrictred-viewing source isn't optimal to cite. — TKD::Talk 07:39, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] "Vandalism" Revert to Turn the Radio Off

On January 15, 2007, I edited the article for the Reel Big Fish album Turn the Radio Off, removing text reading the song "Sell Out" appeared in the video game Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. You reverted my edit 23 minutes later with the summary "rv vandalism". I realize I should have put a summary in my edit in the first place, but I feel I need to point out that I did not vandalize the page. The song does not appear in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater and never has. That is why I removed it. The page history shows that the text was added in the first place by an unknown user who more than likely added it as either vandalism, a test, or was just misinformed. I'm a little embarassed that someone reverted one of my edits as alleged vandalism, because I feel it makes me look like a Wikipedia vandal. Remember to assume good faith! I'm not mad at you, just concerned. Thanks! --Lyght 07:12, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Where to find the Pirates of the Caribbean:At World's End trailer

Dear Captain Dac,

I am Dr.olaf the one who wrote the Two uncoverd secrets From Pirates of the Caribbean Daed Man's Chest.Well now for the trailers. You can go to You Tube.com and in the Search engine type Pirates of the Caribbean At World's End when you get to that page just click one of the images it will take you to a page that will have Pirates of the Caribbean on it and you can look to the right of you screen and go down it will then give you a list of different clips and trailers of At World's End.

With much respect, Dr.olaf

[edit] Your removal of the link to The Flying Dutchman on the page for Davy Jones

I would like to know why you removed the link to the Flying Dutchman. The link that I added was to the ship that the Pirates of the Caribbean was modelled on that Vanderdecken captained, and not the ship actually in the series. The link is relevant considering how many times the Flying Dutchman is mentioned in the article. MelicansMatkin 20:37, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
