Talk:Capture of Haifa in 1948
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Haifa was always a jewish town, and noted for producing the famous techelet dye (blue thread) of the temple priests' garments. The ruins of 3rd century jewish town Shikmona were excavated and are shown in the archaeological museum, which predated any Ottoman or arab settlement of Haifa. Note that today 35,000 arabs live in Haifa in co-existance, some christian and some muslim, with arab muslim-christian internal tensions far greater than the arab-jewish divide. Haifa is also home to 35,000 Druze arabs, 1500 Ahmedi Arabs expelled from Iran, and 2000 Bahai, and is the capital of the Bahai faith as well as holy to Jews and Christians from the bible stories about the prophet Elijah's miracles upon Mount Carmel.
