Talk:Captain John Porteous
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hey, this is a great article - I'd never heard of this before (but then, no history buff me). Can I suggest some enhancements? I'd really like to know:
- why the mob was so keen on the smugglers?
- the article isn't crystal clear about the order of his death - it sounds like convicted, pardoned, lynched. If that's the case, the article should probably say something like "Porteous was convicted on XXX and sentenced to death, but his conviction was quashed by a royal pardon on YYY. Enraged by this, the mob took matters into its own hand, dragging Porteous from his cell, before ..."
- the names of the king (the pardoner) and the provost would also be good additions
Thanks :) -- Finlay McWalter 18:53, 13 Jan 2004 (UTC)
