Capital appreciation is the increase in the price or principal value of a stock. It is the criteria for an investor with a long term growth objective. It is growth in the principal amount invested but not an increase in the current income. In the context of investment in mutual fund , capital appreciation refers to a raise in the value of the securities in a portfolio which contributes to the growth in net asset value.
