Capital Pride (Washington)

Capital Pride is the annual LGBT pride festival held each June in Washington, D.C.. First held in 1975, the festival is now a week-long affair, culminating in a parade near Dupont Circle and a street festival. It is produced by Whitman-Walker Clinic.

Since its inception in 1975, the event has grown from an action rally to Block Party to a parade on Saturday afternoon and a Sunday all day street festival on Pennsylvania Avenue steps away from the National Mall and the US Capitol Building. The week long celebration addresses the issues facing the Washington Metro Area GLBT community and now contains a Mr. and Ms. Capital Pride pageant, a Mr. Capital Pride Leather contest, An Interfaith Service, The Capital Pride Heroes Reception, Town Hall Meetings and GLBT Family Forum, in addition to the Parade and Street Fair.
