The etymology has appeared and disappeared from this article going back at least as far as Oct 2003. It really belongs in the wiktionary:canopy etymology, which currently isnt as extensive:

From Latin Canopus, an Egyptian city known for its luxuries.

I would like to remove the etymology from this disambig article, so if you think the greek heritage is important, please expand the wiktionary:canopy article, or comment here. Jayvdb 01:00, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
