"Registration is only necessary for breeders (so they can sell registered puppies) or for purebred dog show participation (similar to the medieval requirement of royalty for jousting competitions)."

I don't see the link between joining the CKC and royalty or jousting. Also, this making it sound like you need to be registered with the CKC to show dogs in a dog show, which you don't. The dog needs to be but person showing the dog doesn't.

What do people think?

I think you have a point. Or even two. See my edits. Elf | Talk 22:03, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)

[edit] registry limitations

The (currently) 2 para's on reg'y limitations applies as far as I know to all of the major reg's that we include in the table. What do you-all think about creating a template that we can just include in each of the appropriate articles? I'm suggesting something like that rather then simply removing the text to a breed registry article because I think that this is key useful info that people need to know about these things, and people might or might not follow the link to the registry thing.

Could look something like this:

Registry tip. As with almost all breed registries, the registration specifies only that the dog is purely of one recognized breed—it does not guarantee that the dog comes from healthy or show-quality bloodlines. Neither is it a reflection on the quality of the breeder or how the puppy was raised.

Registration is necessary only for dogs who will participate in purebred dog shows. Most breeders prefer to register their eligible puppies, even if they are not of show quality, either because there is a better market for registered dogs or because the puppy might have characteristics that could produce championship stock if careful genetic planning takes place.

humm... I can't say I'm keen on the proliferation of templates, or of boxes. I think this should just be normal text - even if it's text that is used in multiple articles. I'd say just use the text anywhere it's appropriate, and don't give it any special formatting - just my opinion of course -- sannse (talk) 17:45, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Point...and point.... Compromise? Cut-and-paste Registry limitations as is as a subheading into all the registry articles? Just another thought from Quill 22:07, 28 Mar 2005 (UTC) (On the other hand, maybe that's what Sannse was saying all along. What do I know?
