Cantons of Ecuador
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A canton is a tertiary subdivision of Ecuador, below provinces. Cantons are subdivided into parishes (parroquias). The province with most cantons is Guayas (28 cantons). Generally, the provinces in the Amazon basin have fewer cantons than others.

In each canton there is a jefe polĂtico, chosen by the president, who represents him. There are also a mayor (alcalde) and a municipal council (concejo municipal), chosen by popular vote.
