The Canon PowerShot S1 IS is a 3.2 megapixel digital camera announced on February 9, 2004. It was the second of Canon's cameras in the superzoom category, with an integrated 10x zoom lens and image stabilization technology (IS). Its predecessor was the Canon PowerShot Pro90, a $1,500 dSLR, with both 10x zoom lens and IS, but with only 2.6 megapixels.

The PowerShot S1 IS has taken a few design cues from Canon's G series cameras, but rounds out the lines in a body made of two-tone silvered plastic with a couple of metallic surfaces. It was one of the first cameras to offer a 30fps, full-VGA movie mode, limited to 1GB in size (although multiple 1GB movies can be created). Because of sensor differences, none of the dSLR-type cameras offer movie mode.

The S1 IS is not a small camera. Although relatively compact, its deep grip area and rounded top makes it look bigger than cameras such as the G5.
