The EOS-1Ds Mark II is a digital SLR camera body by Canon Inc. of Japan. It is the top model in the Canon EOS line of digital cameras, with a full-frame 16.7 megapixel CMOS sensor (the highest pixel count available as of 2006 in a 35 mm-equivalent digital SLR). A professional grade camera body, the EOS 1Ds Mark II is large, ruggedly built, waterproof and dustproof.
Being an autofocus camera, it has multiple autofocus modes, and an option for manual focusing. Its viewfinder is a "fixed pentaprism". It also has a two-inch, TFT, color LCD with approximately 230,000 pixels. Its dimensions are 156 mm in width, 157.6 mm in height, and 79.9 mm in depth (6.14 in × 6.20 in × 3.15 in). Its mass (without a battery) is 1,215 g (2 lb 10.9 oz).
The camera's image sensor is a single-plate CMOS-based integrated circuit. It has approximately 17.2 million total photosites (16.6 million effective pixels in the final output). It has an RGB primary color filter. A non-removable low-pass filter is located in front of the image sensor.
In line with the 5D, a lower end full-frame model in Canon's digital SLR lineup, the low-pass filter is used to blur moire artifacts.
The shutter is an electronically-controlled focal-plane shutter. Its maximum speed is 1/8,000 of one second. Soft-touch shutter release occurs via electromagnetic signaling.
