Cannonsburg, Kentucky

Cannonsburg is an unincorporated community located in Boyd County, Kentucky. Cannonsburg is generally considered a part of nearby Ashland, although Cannonsburg is not within Ashland city limits. Most of Cannonsburg shares its mailing zipcode with Ashland, however parts are within the Catlettsburg mailing zipcode. Cannonsburg is a part of the Huntington-Ashland, WV-KY-OH, Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). As of the 2000 census, the MSA had a population of 288,649.

Boyd County High School and Cannonsburg Elementary are located in Cannonsburg. Both are a part of the Boyd County Public School District.

Cannonsburg acts as one of three access points for Interstate 64, connecting the Ashland area to Lexington, Kentucky and Huntington, West Virginia via US 60 and Kentucky State Route 180. Ashland's other access points are through Catlettsburg via US 23, and Coalton via US 60 (old)

Currently, the Interstate 64/KY 180 interchange (Exit 185) is under renovation to improve safety and address traffic problems. The construction of a new diamond-shaped exchange is scheduled to be completed in fall of 2008. 12
