[edit] Athletics

Member of the Minnesota State High School League and member of the Hiawatha Valley League Converence (HVL). Due to the number of schools in the HVL, the conference is divided into two divisions, the gold division and the blue division. Cannon Falls is a member of the HVL Blue Conference.

The Cannon Falls Bomber Girls have enjoyed a fair amount of success in the early 2000s. The Bombers first state championship came in 2005 with a Class A Dance Team State championship which was repeated the following year in 2006 and now a 3-peat State Championship performance with a third straight State Title captured in 2007. Also in 2006, The Cannon Falls Girls Basketball team captured their first state title (Class AA), behind Senior Cory Montgomery's tournament MVP performance. 4 of the 5 starters for the Bombers were named to the all-tournament team. The girls basketball team has been among the top teams in the conference consistently in the past few years. The girls track and cross country teams have seen a number of athletes advance to the state tournament. In 2002 and 2003 the Girls Golf team saw their girls advance to the state tournament both years, placing 7th in 2002 and in 2003 they saw their Senior led golf team shoot to a 4th place finish.

On the boy's side only moderate success has been enjoyed. No team state championships, but sprinter Jered Chambers took home an individual state championship with a Class A state 100 m Dash championship in 2002 with a time of 11.32 seconds. The baseball team has been the most consistent, bringing home a majority of the HVL Blue Conference championships in the 80's, 90's and into the 2000s. Section championship games have not been an uncommon occurrence for the Bombers, however their last state appearance in baseball dates back to 1997. In 2001-2006 the football team saw a little bit of a revivial since the mid-90's. Ranked in the top 10 consistently, with a highest ever ranking coming in at #2 in the state poll during the 2002 season. The conference championships have somehow eluded the team though, with only two in school history, those coming in 1996 and 2002, both teams had a record of 7-1 in the regular season and were perfect going into the final game of the regular season before losing their final game of the year. The school's only football state appearance came in 1996. Most recently the football team finished with a 1-8 record. The boy's basketball team has endured a few ups and downs in recent history, winning their first HVL Championship in many years in 2006. The wrestling team has consistently been at the top of the conference with a handful of wrestlers, which includes; Micah Flodeen, Seth Flodeen, Kevin Landry, Levi Price, Jared Erlanson, Spencer Flodeen, and Stephen Johnson all advancing to the state tournament in recent years.
