Canadian Environmental Network
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Canadian Environmental Network (CEN) is located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, and is an umbrella organization for non profit groups all across Canada. This non-profit organization is mainly funded by Environment Canada. The main purposes of the CEN is to facilitate consultations with government, educate the public on major issues and policy making in regards to the environment, and to support networking between the environmental groups. An Annual General Meeting is held each year to elect a governing board, and a conference is organized to coincide with this. This is one of the few ways to increase public participation in the democratic process, and to help more Canadian citizens to communicate more effectively across the great distances of the vast nation. The main goal is to help preserve and to protect the natural beauty, diversity, habitats, landscapes, regions, forests, ecological integrity, quality of water, quality of air, and health of all species and their interdependent relationships. There are various committees and caucus groups that focus on different issues and the necessary functions of the organization. The Manitoba Eco-Network is an example of one of the provincial umbrella groups in the network that have members from only that province.
