Canada's Next Top Model (also abbreviated as CNTM) is a Canadian reality show in which ten women compete to win a variety of prizes. CNTM brings in some of Canada’s best undiscovered talent. The aspiring models are taught the ins and outs of the modeling world as they compete for the grand prize of being "Canada’s Next Top Model".The winner walks away with a modeling contract from Sutherland Models, a $100,000 beauty contract from Procter & Gamble (makers of CoverGirl), and an editorial spread in Fashion Magazine. CNTM Cycle 1 was hosted by Canadian supermodel and actress Tricia Helfer. The show airs every Wednesday at 8/7c on Citytv. A rerun is also broadcast every Tuesday at 8/7c on A Channel.

"Canada’s Next Top Model" is co-produced by Temple Street Productions and The May Street Group, in association with CHUM Television and CBS Paramount International TV.

Citytv has announced that Helfer will not return to host the second season of the program and will be replaced by Jay Manuel. Helfer reportedly is leaving to concentrate on her acting career.[1]

[edit] Premise

CNTM is the Canadian version of the successful US television show America's Next Top Model, created and co-produced by supermodel Tyra Banks. The show is similar in format and style to its American counterpart. In any given episode, there are three events that occur: the challenge, the photoshoot and the judging/elimination.

[edit] The challenge

The challenge usually focuses on an element important to modeling. For example, in the first episode the girls were asked to show Jay Manuel their runway walks. A guest judge, who is unique to each episode, evaluates the contestants and decides the winner of the challenge, who receives a prize for her victory. The winner is then permitted to allow a certain number of other contestants to receive a similar, but lesser, reward, while the others are given nothing. For example, Heather, who won the challenge in Episode 1, was given first choice of the rooms in their house. Heather then chose Andrea to share in the prize with her.

[edit] The judging and elimination

At the end of each CNTM Cycle 1 episode, the girls were critiqued by a panel of judges consisting of Tricia Helfer, Jeanne Beker, Paul Venoit, Stacey McKenzie and the episode's guest judge. For Cycle 2, the judges will be Jeanne Beker, Yasmin Warsame, Paul Alexander, and Nolé Marin. Based upon performance in the challenge, the photoshoot, and general attitude of the contestants, the judges deliberate and decide which girl must leave the competition. Once the judges have made their decision, the girls are called back into the room. The host calls out the names of the girls who performed well in the challenge and photoshoot, giving them a copy of their best photo from the shoot. The last two girls, whose names have not been called, are said to be in the "bottom two".
