Why does the link for an open source alternative keep getting removed on this? Wikipedia is meant for information - NOT as a commercial advertisement site, and as such there shouldn't be a problem providing alternatives to software!

The correct place for such a link would be under "See Also", not in the body of the text. See other entries such as Marmite. Such links should also list NBOS Fractal Mapper and other commercial products.
