[edit] Campus

Campus Middle School consists of a single school building. It has four stories. It has elevators and ramps to support disabled children. CMS has two gyms. Most classrooms are grouped by floor. It also has a large gifted and talented program, as well as accelerated classes to support the needs of children at all levels. CMS school hours were set to 8:35 a.m. to 3:55 p.m. as of the 2006-2007 school year. For the 2007-2008 school year, hours are being changed to 8:25 a.m. to 3:35 p.m.

[edit] Schedule

The CMS school year has four quarters. It uses a traditional schedule, including a summer, winter, fall, spring, and Thanksgiving break.

The day has 7 periods including a new 25 minute class at the end of the day. There are four "core class" periods, two "elective" periods, a lunch period, and "core support" (homeroom). Core Support is a newly added class at the end of the day that gives students a chance to get their homwork done with a teacher's help.

[edit] Classes

[edit] Core Classes

In every grade, each student is required to take four core classes. These are:

  • Social Studies: In sixth grade, students study the Western hemisphere. In seventh grade, students study the Eastern Hemisphere. In eighth grade, students study U.S. history and government.
  • Language Arts: Basic, Accelerated, and Honors programs are offered for all grades.
  • Math: Math classes range from basic sixth grade math to Geometry(Honors). Some students also go to Cherry Creek High School to take Algebra 2/Trigonometry (honors) and higher.
  • Science: Science classes are within a similar subject range, but students learn more and go deeper into the individual subjects as they progress.

[edit] Electives

Each student has a choice of some electives to take. They can take 4 classes, alternating each quarter, or year-long classes.

Some elective options include: technology, art, gym, music, and foreign languages.

[edit] Students

CMS served 1,300 students in 2004. 80.3% were Caucasian, 4.1% were Hispanic American, 12.3% were Asian American, 3.2% were African American, and 0.2% were Native American. About 5.2% of students were offered free or reduced meals.

[edit] Athletics

CMS has many extracurricular sports available. These include track, basketball, wrestling, and volleyball. A mustang is featured on all gym shirts.

[edit] Extracurriculars

As well as sports, CMS has many clubs and teams. There is an Optimist Brain Bowl team, a few Destination Imagination teams, a Diversity Task Force, a MathCounts team, a National Junior Honor Society, and many others. In addition to clubs, there is also teacher support outside of school hours through the Academic Support Center. Campus also has a school musical, and this year it is a Seussical. All clubs are supervised by a teacher.
