Campo Baixo (Portuguese meaning the low fields, ALUPEC or ALUPEK: Kanpu Baxu), is a small settlement located in the southwest corner of the Brava, Cape Verde. The area around Campo Baixo are surrounded by mountains to the east and west and farmlands are in the valley areas with a small field. The settlement is linked with a poor dirt and unpaved road linking Tantum and the road linking to the island capital of Vila Nova Sintra and the rest of the island. A small dry stream flows near Campo Baixo. The living standards are one of the lowest in Cape Verde and income is nearly at the lowest range, one time, there were no money until the late-20th century. Residents lives in small mud and brick made houses. The village has low importance. The entire population are farmers and are based in agriculture. However, much of the needy materials comes from the island capital and the diaspora. But for other needs, electricity, communications and appliances are not available in the area as well as nearby Tantum.
