[edit] History
The school was founded in 1970 by Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Campion Shortell in Kolonaki.
The school was founded as an independent, not-for-profit organization governed by a Board of Trustees. Campion provides a British-style education to students from over forty countries. The school has been awarded accreditation by the Council of International Schools (CIS).
The school is now located on a new, purpose-built campus in the Athens suburb of Pallini, 16 km east of the city centre. Former campuses were located in Halandri, Psychico, and Ekali.
The academic programme is based on the National Curriculum (England and Wales) leading to IGCSE and the International Baccalaureate Diploma, with a majority of graduates aiming for entrance to universities in the UK.
[edit] Staff
The majority of the staff are graduates of UK universities
The current headmaster is S. W. Atherton. Richard Scarr is the deputy head and Dr. F. Clough is the Director of studies.
Recently the school's active manipulation of its Wikipedia entry has given rise to suspicions that it views the Wikipedia platform as a surrogate form of its own website. This abuse of the freedom of speech and expression enshrined in the Wikipedia ethos has ensured that all entries that are considered to be less than sufficiently promotional have been removed, presumably by over-zealous members of staff. This is a pity since it promotes a one-dimensional view of the school to interested readers. But such is life.
[edit] Students
Each student is now organized into one of the houses, after the titans Atlas, Hyperion and Prometheus (houses were previously named after legendary Greek heroes (Alexander, Pericles, Theseus, Heracles). Students wear a uniform up to and including year eleven; students in years twelve and thirteen are not required to wear the uniform, but must adhere to a dress code.
The Campion school uniform has always consisted of a combination of blue, white, and red. Boys wear navy trousers, white shirt and navy pullover, while girls wear navy trousers or skirt, white shirt and red or navy pullover.
The students are divided into Junior (years one through six) and Senior (years seven through thirteen) divisions which, while previously housed at different campuses, are now combined on one campus but in separate buildings.
