Campeonato Brasileiro de Rugby

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Campeonato Brasileiro de Rugby is the domestic championship for rugby union in Brazil, and has been contested since 1964. The Super 8 as it is known in English, is divided into two groups which contest the regular season, until the top four teams enter the semi-finals. Like a number of other of rugby union competitions, bonus points[1] (i.e. scoring four or more tries in a match, or losing a match by seven points or less) can be obtained throughout the competition, as opposed to just winning points. The competition is amateur.

In the 2006 edition, the competition was disputed by eight clubs, divided in two groups of four teams each. The clubs from one group played against the four clubs of the other group once. However, the clubs did not play against clubs of its own group. The two best placed teams of each group qualified to the semifinals. The semifinals and the final were one-legged matches.
