Campeche (Florianópolis)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Campeche is a beach located on the south of the city of Florianópolis, on the south of Brazil.
Before there was a proper airport, Correio do Sul planes used to land on the fields at Campeche, inaugurated in 1924. According to information gathered at Florianópolis´ Air Base, French pilot and writer Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, author of the classic "The Little Prince", would make regular landings on the area, when he flew with Ligne Latécoère (now Air France).
The French writer was seen for the first time landing his noisy and yet small Bréguet in Campeche in 1926. A monument was erected in his honor, because locals never forgot Mr. Zé Perri, their most illustrious visitor. If the writer could see Campeche today, he might be horrified on how much it has grown.
There are many houses to rent as well as pousadas, bars and simple restaurants. From any point along its 11,5 km one can see the exuberant Isle of Campeche.
