Camp Horizons

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Camp Horizons is a summer camp close to Harrisonburg, Virginia, USA. It caters for children aged 5-17, with those aged 17 taking part in the Counselor in Training (CIT) programme.

The camp is non religious and apart from the flag flying outside the younger children's dining hall also has no nationalistic undercurrent. The basis is on fun and friendship and there are no ulterior motives, something which attracts many of the campers parents and counselors.

The counselors are around half from the United States and half international. Counselors come mostly from European Countries (especially the United Kingdom) and Australia and New Zealand. Typically the international staff arrive through the Camp America or Camp USA programmes.

[edit] Villages

There are five different villages to the camp.

The younger children's villages, for ages 5-12 are Rainbow for the Girls and Sunrise for the Boys. The younger children's villages come under the collective Journey programme.

The fifth is the adventure programme, which is for both boys and girls, and where they spend their time in the forest, away from the main camp. They do a lot of hill walking and outdoors courses.
