Camlachie, Ontario

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Camlachie is a community near the shore of Lake Huron in the Canadian province of Ontario, in the town of Plympton-Wyoming. The village proper has a population of approximately 420 and serves as a local hub for surrounding farms. Businesses include a gas station, a feed mill, and a small hand craft and pottery store called Kingston Cove, a popular hangout for local teens, which also houses an LCBO Agency Store (therefore it is often open on holidays, whereas liquor stores in nearby Sarnia, Ontario are closed). Public amenities include a post office, a public library, a volunteer fire hall, a ball park with three diamonds and playground and a community centre operated by the Optimists. Camlachie in recent years has become a mecca for bargain hunters due to the proliferation of flea markets in the area, the longest lasting being Hunter's Flea Market across from the Fire Hall, downtown. In recent years, the community has seen considerable growth with the development of the nearby "Maples" and "Errol Village" subdivisions, just minutes from downtown. There are three churches in the community, Anglican, Presbyterian and United Church of Canada. Camlachie is also home to great golf courses including Sawmill Creek Golf and Country Club, and Bonnie Doon Golf and Country Club. Also home of the legandary Shawn Moore.
