Cambridge University Law Society

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cambridge University Law Society, or CULS, is a student society for all undergraduate members of Cambridge University and Anglia Ruskin University, both of which are in Cambridge, England, United Kingdom. It plays a central role in the social and extra-curricular activities of its members, providing opportunities to engage in mooting, hear academic speakers on topics from Human Rights to the Trial of Saddam Hussein, and enjoy regular social events. CULS also assists in the interface between City and Regional Law Firms and potential graduate recruits. It is one of the largest student run societies in Cambridge University.

The society publishes a termly magazine, Per Incuriam, which provides a forum for members to write on pressing matters of national and international law and give feed-back on experiences on vacation schemes and pupillage. The major benefit of the society is to provide social events for members. Traditionally, they have six big events annually: Fresher Cocktails, the Annual Law Ball, Valentine Champagne and Cocktails, the Annual Dinner, the Wintercomfort quiz (a fund-raising event to support a local charity for the homeless), and the Garden Party.

Elections for positions to the Law Society Committee are held annually.

The Society's website can be located at: www.camlawsoc.com [1].

In 2006, the Cambridge University Law Society held its first "annual" Varsity Dinner with the Oxford Law Society in Oxford.
