Camara (Charity)

Camara is a charitable organisation that sends refurbished computers from Ireland to schools and other educational institutions in Sub-Saharan Africa

They secure the donation of redundant computers from private and public organisations in Ireland. They clean, repair, reconfigure, refurbish, repack and send them in sea container loads to educational institutions in Africa. All the computers are installed with Edubuntu or Suse, Linux based operating systems for use in schools and other education institutions.

Their workshop and headquarters are currently located on North Wall Quay, Dublin 1.

[edit] Summer 2006 Trip

During the summer of 2006, 12 volunteers from Camara went to Ethiopia and Kenya to visit schools and institutions that had received Camara computers, they taught approximately 250 people basic computer and office skills.
