Callicoon (CDP), New York

Callicoon is a hamlet (and census-designated place) in Sullivan County, New York, United States. The population was 216 at the 2000 census.

Callicoon is in the western part of the county in the Town of Delaware (Note that the Town of Callicoon is a different place).

The community is located on the east bank of the Delaware River.

Callicoon is located at 41°45′56″N, 75°3′31″W (41.765831, -75.058682)GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 1.2 km² (0.5 mi²). 1.0 km² (0.4 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it (17.39%) is water.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 216 people, 94 households, and 61 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 219.5/km² (565.1/mi²). There were 106 housing units at an average density of 107.7/km² (277.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 91.67% White, 4.63% Black or African American, 3.24% Asian, and 0.46% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 6.02% of the population.

There were 94 households out of which 28.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.6% were married couples living together, 17.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.1% were non-families. 28.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.30 and the average family size was 2.79.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 23.6% under the age of 18, 5.6% from 18 to 24, 25.0% from 25 to 44, 29.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 98.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.1 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $33,162, and the median income for a family was $33,068. Males had a median income of $32,917 versus $19,375 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $14,217. About 15.1% of families and 16.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 25.8% of those under the age of eighteen and 16.7% of those sixty five or over.
