Callahan is a town in Nassau County in the state of Florida in the United States of America. The population was 962 at the 2000 census.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 962 people, 411 households, and 256 families residing in the town. The population density was 279.3/km² (724.9/mi²). There were 444 housing units at an average density of 128.9/km² (334.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 85.86% White, 10.60% African American, 0.83% Native American, 0.21% Asian, 0.52% from other races, and 1.98% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.49% of the population.
There were 411 households out of which 33.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 37.0% were married couples living together, 20.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 37.5% were non-families. 32.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.34 and the average family size was 2.95.
In the town the population was spread out with 28.4% under the age of 18, 12.4% from 18 to 24, 25.5% from 25 to 44, 20.9% from 45 to 64, and 12.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 78.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 74.9 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $25,234, and the median income for a family was $32,167. Males had a median income of $27,422 versus $23,036 for females. The per capita income for the town was $14,710. About 14.8% of families and 21.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 30.6% of those under age 18 and 18.7% of those age 65 or over.

Callahan Elementary and Callahan Intermediate Schools serve grades K-5, Callahan Middle School serves 6-8, and West Nassau High School has grades 9-12. Sonshine Christian Academy, a co-ed private school affiliated with the Assembly of God, instructs Pre-Kindergarten through 9th grade.

Shirley Graham is currently the mayor of Callahan, and Cleo Horne is the Town Clerk. The town council members are Robert "Bobby" Rau (Council President), David Card, Ted Combs, Joseph Horne, and Janet Shaw. The Town Treasurer of Callahan is Cindy Williams.
