[edit] History
call4care is a global MVNO that began in the Netherlands in 2003 via a collaboration [1] between Kinsale Mobile, MEC and Telfort (now KPN). The MVNO has a charitable component that allocates a proportion of the call charges to charities directing between 5 and 10% of revenues (in NL [2], in US [3]). Many call4care licensees are large corporates that use the MVNO as the basis for CSR programs [4].
[edit] Charities
Some of the charities that are involved in these programs include Red Cross, Amnesty International, Heart Foundation and Barretstown. Note that some of these charities are represented only by country specific chapters.
[edit] Operations
call4care is the charitable MVNO brand of Kindsale Mobile and MEC. call4care operates in the Netherlands, Ireland and US and provides services using a variety of GSM providers.
[edit] Industry Initiatives
It is worthwile noting that last year, to support charitable operator initiatives like call4care, Kinsale Mobile submitted a request[5] for an Easily Recognisable Code for Charitable use to the Industry Numbering Committee (part of ATIS[6],), (discussed at INC 92 [7]).
