State Route 184 is a short state route in the extreme southeastern corner of the San Joaquin Valley, and it links CA-223 to CA-178 northeast of Bakersfield. The entire route is known as Weedpatch Highway. South of CA-223, the road continues as Wheeler Ridge Road before ending at I-5 4 miles north of the Grapevine in Wheeler Ridge. Before Caltrans started numbering exits, the Wheeler Ridge Road interchange along northbound I-5 was signed as Lamont/Lake Isabella, as it bypassed the heavily traveled CA-99 and it avoided the Bakersfield area altogether as Lake Isabella traffic headed east out of the Central Valley along CA-178. It is unclear if Wheeler Ridge Road ever was signed as CA-184 south of CA-223.
