California Brazil Camp is an annual music education event held in the redwoods of Cazadero, California near the Russian River. Founded in 1997 by Dennis Broughton and Marcelo Pereira for the dissemination of Brazilian arts and culture. It remains one of the most significant such points of cultural dissemination for hundreds of master, professional, and amateur musicians in the Americas. Initially, the camp offered classes in Brazilian music, dance, and capoeira.
Today, the focus in narrowed to music (especially Rio-style samba, bossa nova, choro, jazz, and the folk styles of the Brazilian northeast) and dance (especially samba and Afro-Brazilian folkloric styles).
Instructors at the California Brazil Camp have included Airto Moreira, Dori Caymmi, Guinga, Paulo Bellinati, and Jovino Santos Neto.
