California's 3rd Senate District

California's 3rd State Senate District is one of 40 Senate Districts. It is currently represented by Democrat Senator Carole Migden of San Francisco.

The 3rd District spans the Golden Gate Bridge, connecting high income areas of the North Bay with the eastern portions of the City and County of San Francisco. The population is evenly divided between the San Francisco and North Bay portions of the district. The district is majority Non-Hispanic White, with most of San Francisco's large Asian community in the 8th Senate District.

The North Bay portion includes the entirety of Marin County, and part of Sonoma County. The cities of Petaluma and Rohnert Part as well as most of the area surrounding the city of Santa Rosa is in the 3rd district.

The San Francisco portion includes the Downtown area, as well as all of most of the Marina, Presidio, Nob Hill, Russian Hill, Chinatown, Castro, Haight-Ashbury, Mission, Market, Portrero, Hunter's Point, Bay View, Miraloma Park, and Treasure Island.

The 3rd Senate District is a safe Democratic district. As of 2006, 53% of Registered Voters were registered Democrat while only 17% were registered Republican. Senator Midgen received over 68% of the vote in the 2004 General Election.
