California's 39th congressional district
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
California's 39th congressional district covers part of southeastern Los Angeles County. It is one of 53 California Congressional Districts. It represented by Linda Sánchez, a Democrat elected in 2002.
The seat was originally one of five reapportioned to California after the 1970 census. The district as currently drawn was created for the 109th Congress following post-2000 census redistricting.
The previous 39th was a Republican stronghold, territory now mostly redesignated into the 40th and 42nd districts; Sánchez's predecessor Ed Royce now represents the 40th. George W. Bush received 40% of the vote in this district in 2004. The district has a Cook Partisan Voting Index score of D +13.
