Cali Fair

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Cali Fair (Dec. 25 - Jan. 01) is the most important cultural event in Cali, Colombia. It is a celebration of the region's cultural identity, famous for the Salsa marathon, horse riding parades and dance parties.

Most people think is absurd to have a "Town´s Fair" in a city of over 2 million people. It is also mentioned that the "Cabalgata" is the most ridiculous event: a parade where the drug dealers, called "traquetos," ride horses rented for the event, showing off their gold and their women. However, those who know better will understand that Colombia's economy is not dependent on drug dealing, and that it is rich in culture and variety.

Horse riding is a sport done with great style and it is wonderful to enjoy with the whole family, together with the masquerades, and the salsa marathon, where professional salsa dancers from all around the world participate, in an environment of loud music, delicious food, and yes, why deny it or hide it, beautiful women.
