Cairns West State School is located on Hoare Street, Cairns, Queensland, Australia. It caters for students from Prep through to Year 7. They have an Early Intervention class and a Deaf Unit attached to the school where access to specialist teachers is available. The school has the most Torres Strait and Aboriginal students of any mainland Queensland school.

The suburbs around the school contain more "public Housing" than any other suburb in Queensland, C.W.S.S. has a multicultural feel and look to it and participates in music festivals and other cultural events throughout North Queensland.

Cairns West was one of the first Queensland schools to offer a "Prep" year to students in the early years of education. The principal is Anne Mauger
