Cairn Energy plc (LSE: CNE) is an independent oil exploration and production company. Its headquarters are in Edinburgh, Scotland and it is listed on the London Stock Exchange. The company was founded by Bill Gammell, who remains its CEO. It is currently a member of the FTSE 250 Index after it was relegated from the FTSE 100 Index in March, 2007[1]. It had rejoined the FTSE 100 in the September 2005 reshuffle.
The company has operations in the North Sea, and is seeking expansion in South Asia, where they currently (2006) hold material exploration and production positions in West and East India and Bangladesh.
