Cainsville, once a top team in the HDC Conference, had become a doormat during the 80's and 90's. One two year stretch in the late 80's saw the boys basketball team fail to win a single game. A string of one and done coaches were hired, none finding success. Then in 1994, the brilliant Bill Best was hired to coach the Redmen and Redettes. There was immediate success and the teams rose back to the top of the HDC. During his helm, Best guided the Cainsville teams to back to back conference titles in girls basketball, a conference title in track (with only 4 girls on the track team!) and a 4th place state finish in boys softball. His Redette girls basketball teams had winning records in all 5 years of his tenure, topped off by the 26-3, Conference Champion, District Champion and Regional Championship team of 1998-99.
