I've created this using the colloquial name "Cad Operator" and put the redirect on the official MPS job title of 'Communications Officer' for two reasons:

1) The post of communications officer exists in any number of organisations whereas 'Cad Operator' is a specific MPS term, and this page is specifically about the MPS post - I believe London Ambulance Service also uses the term, however I'm not competent to write on them. The LAS and MPS systems are in any case so integrated that I believe an LAS version of this page would be very similar

2) In all my dealings with MPS officers and staff, I have never seen or heard the term 'Communications Officer' used in anything other than an official capacity; even those who use only the CHS system and never touch CAD still are referred to and refer to themselves as 'Cad Operators'. Likewise, I've not capitalised CAD as it is invariably written as a word rather than an acronym in MPS usage. Iridescenti 20:11, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Copy-editing

Please stop changing "despatch" to "dispatch"! This is the correct spelling in MPS usage. I've also reverted a well-intentioned copy edit which changed "active service" to "street patrols" - these are most definitely not the same thing! Iridescenti 15:04, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
